Change Readiness Check

Mastering change: The Change Readiness Check brings clarity for the next step

Whether new software, a reorganization, or a cultural transformation, change is part of everyday life in modern organizations. Yet not every change succeeds. Initiatives often fail not because of the idea, but because the organization is not sufficiently prepared. The Change Readiness Check provides clarity. It shows how ready your team or organization is for change and where targeted adjustments are needed.

What is the Change Readiness Check?

The Change Readiness Check is a practical tool for analysis and reflection. It makes visible how strongly the existing capabilities are developed across the key dimensions of change and how extensive the planned transformation actually is.

By combining these two perspectives, a clear picture emerges. The check shows the current level of readiness for change and at the same time defines the target level required for successful implementation. This makes it clear where the organization is already well prepared and where targeted adjustments can still be made.

Typical use cases

  • Introducing new systems: for example a CRM system designed to improve customer orientation.
  • Mergers and departmental integration: teams come together and processes need to be rethought.
  • Cultural change: openness, willingness to learn, and trust are to be strengthened.
  • Reorganizations: roles, processes, and decision making structures are evolving.

The check provides orientation and makes visible which prerequisites are already in place and where there is a need for action.

The five dimensions of change

01

Change Vision & Strategy

stands for the clarity and persuasiveness of the strategic direction of a change initiative.

02

Change Culture & Mindset

describes the organization’s fundamental attitude toward change.

03

Change Competence & Experience

measures the knowledge, skills, and practical experience in dealing with change.

04

Structure & Process Flexibility

refers to the adaptability of structures, roles, decision making processes, and workflows.

05

Change Architecture & Communication

describes how professionally the change process is planned, managed, and supported through communication.

Scope of Change

Changes vary in scale. The check therefore first captures the scope of the initiative on a scale from 1 to 5. Level 1 represents a small change, while Level 5 represents a comprehensive transformation. Introducing a CRM system differs significantly from merging two departments or from a full cultural transformation of an entire organization. Depending on the scope, it becomes clear which level of capability is required for successful implementation.

Assessment of change capabilities

The five change dimensions are also assessed on a scale from Level 1 to 5. This evaluation shows where the organization is already strong and where targeted development is needed to successfully navigate change.

How to apply the Change Readiness Check

01

Assess the scope of the planned change (Level 1 - 5)

02

Assess capabilities across the five dimensions

03

Compare the current state with the required level

04

Identify areas for action

05

Derive actions, for example using the TOP model (Organization, Team, Individual)

The result: A clear picture of your organization’s readiness for change and concrete approaches for the next steps.
